Representing Angolan President Joao Lourenco, who currently chairs the AU, Antonio emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts. "This is about exploring, in a spirit of constructive dialogue, ways to collectively support the fight against terrorism and promote development in the Sahel," he stated, as shared by the Malian presidency’s official social media channels.
Antonio highlighted that his talks with Goita centered on enhancing unity among African nations, underlining the values of African solidarity and a shared future. He reiterated the AU chair’s dedication to "the stability and security of Mali and the entire Sahel region."
The envoy’s visit to Bamako came shortly after his trip to Burkina Faso on Monday, reflecting a broader AU strategy to address the escalating security challenges across the Sahel corridor.
