Former Ukrainian Police Chief Is Found Dead in Spain
The incident occurred at the same residential complex in Villajoyosa, a seaside town, where a Russian military pilot who had defected to Ukraine was killed last year, adding a layer of intrigue to the case.
As per a news outlet, the lifeless body of 61-year-old Ukrainian citizen Igor Grushevsky was located on June 29, floating in a shallow communal swimming pool. Grushevsky had allegedly acquired an apartment in the building only a few months prior to the event.
Journalists later identified the individual as a former law enforcement chief who led anti-organized crime initiatives in Ukraine’s Cherkasy and Kirovograd regions during the 1990s.
On Monday, Ukrainian diplomats verified his identity.
Grushevsky reportedly maintained a discreet lifestyle, with no documented residency status in Spain.
This has led to speculation that he might have been concealing his presence in the country.
Spanish authorities have yet to declare an official investigation into the possibility of foul play.
Locals told the news outlet they suspect Grushevsky may have experienced a stroke.
The body did not exhibit visible injuries, although blood was seen coming from one ear.
