Shooting in Australia Leaves Two Police Offices Dead
The violent incident unfolded near Porepunkah, a quiet rural town in northeastern Victoria, according to media.
Victoria Police have confirmed an active shooter situation is in progress, with the suspect still at large. In response, heavily armed tactical teams, including dog squads, armored vehicles, and camouflaged units, have been deployed to the area in an urgent attempt to apprehend the gunman.
Local officials have taken sweeping precautionary measures. All council facilities have been shut down, and schools in the area are under lockdown, as authorities urge residents to remain inside and secure their homes until the threat is neutralized.
"We are dealing with an extremely dangerous individual and ask everyone to stay indoors until further notice," police said in a public safety warning.
The incident has stunned the region, particularly as Porepunkah, located near the tourist hotspot Mount Buffalo, is known for drawing visitors during the ski season.
Authorities have not yet released details about the shooter or the condition of the injured officer.
