UK Updates Maps to Officially Display Palestine for First Time

(MENAFN) The British government has officially updated its maps to reflect the state of Palestine for the first time, following Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s announcement on Sunday recognizing Palestinian statehood.

The Foreign Office’s latest travel advisory now designates the territories of Palestine (West Bank) and Palestine (Gaza), replacing the previous term "Occupied Palestinian Territories" with "Palestine." This update marks a significant shift in the UK's stance, aligning it with over 150 countries worldwide that have already recognized Palestine as a state.

The Foreign Office statement clarified, saying, "This page has been updated from 'Occupied Palestinian Territories' to 'Palestine.'"

Prime Minister Starmer’s declaration comes ahead of the UN General Assembly, as part of the UK’s move to solidify its support for the two-state solution amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

"In the face of the growing horror in the Middle East, we are acting to keep alive the possibility of the peace and the two-state solution," Starmer said in a video statement.

This decision marks a pivotal moment in Britain’s foreign policy, highlighting its commitment to peace and stability in the region.
