Polish Jets Intercept Russian Aircraft
According to the Polish Army on US social media platform X, the Russian Il-20 was flying in international airspace without submitting a flight plan and had its transponder switched off.
"On October 28, 2025, a pair of on-duty MiG-29 Air Force fighters successfully intercepted, visually identified, and escorted a Russian Federation aircraft out of the area of responsibility," the statement noted, explaining that the aircraft was conducting operations over the Baltic Sea.
The military emphasized that the plane did not enter Polish airspace.
Several European nations have accused Russia of orchestrating recent drone incursions into their airspace, although Moscow has denied these allegations.
Tensions escalated following a Sept. 9 incident when around 20 drones crossed into Polish airspace during a major strike on Ukraine, prompting NATO aircraft to conduct joint patrols with Polish forces.
Other NATO members in the vicinity, including the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, have reported comparable violations of their airspace.
