Russia Remains Open for Putin-Trump Meeting, Says Ushakov

(MENAFN) Russia remains open to a potential meeting between President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, a presidential aide confirmed on Monday.

When asked about a timeline for a possible summit, Yury Ushakov declined to provide specifics. “There is no timetable yet, but there is a fundamental readiness to hold a meeting if it is prepared by experts in advance,” he stated.

Pressed on whether a meeting could still take place this year, Ushakov said, “I don’t know,” noting that the Putin-Trump summit in Alaska this past August had been arranged very quickly.

Earlier this month, Trump suggested hosting a summit with Putin in Budapest, Hungary. Moscow expressed willingness to engage, but the plan was abruptly shelved days later when the U.S. leader said it “didn’t feel like we were going to get to the place we have to get” and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities along the Ukraine front lines.

The comments marked a sudden shift in Trump’s approach. The U.S. president had previously advocated for a comprehensive peace agreement to resolve the conflict, rather than a temporary pause—a stance aligned with Moscow, which has consistently emphasized its pursuit of a lasting resolution.

Meanwhile, Kiev and its Western allies continue to push for an immediate ceasefire, while Moscow argues that such a move would merely allow Ukraine time to regroup its forces and acquire additional weaponry.
