US House Panel Subpoenas Attorney General Over Epstein Probe
Committee Chairman James Comer stated that the panel is examining “the possible mismanagement of the federal government’s investigation of Mr. Jeffrey Epstein and (his associate) Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell,” along with “the circumstances and subsequent investigations of Mr. Epstein’s death” and adherence to the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
In a letter dated March 17, Comer explained that the committee is reviewing the events surrounding Epstein’s death, the larger operations of sex-trafficking networks, and whether federal authorities appropriately handled related evidence and disclosures.
The panel also intends to evaluate the Justice Department’s role in gathering, reviewing, and releasing materials linked to Epstein and his associates, with potential legislative reforms under consideration.
Bondi has been instructed to appear for a deposition on April 14, according to the correspondence.
Epstein was discovered dead in his New York City jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Previously, in 2008, he pleaded guilty in a Florida court to procuring a minor for prostitution, a conviction critics have described as a “sweetheart deal.”
His victims have claimed that he operated an extensive sex trafficking network used by members of wealthy and political circles.
