Israel Orders Evacuations in Southern Lebanon
Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee directed residents of Machgharah, Tyre, and Burj Al-Shamali "to leave immediately." Adraee stated that Israeli forces would be conducting operations across those areas, citing what he described as Hezbollah activity within the targeted neighborhoods.
Israel has subjected Lebanon to relentless airstrikes and a ground offensive in the country's south since a cross-border assault launched by Hezbollah on March 2. Lebanese authorities report that the campaign has since killed at least 1,039 people and left 2,876 others wounded.
The assault on Lebanon forms part of a broader and rapidly deepening regional conflagration. A joint U.S.-Israeli offensive against Iran, which began on February 28, has claimed more than 1,340 lives, further inflaming the wider conflict. Tehran has responded with waves of drone and missile strikes directed at Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states, declaring the attacks were aimed at "US military assets."
The cascading military exchanges have raised alarm among international observers, with the combined death toll across both fronts now exceeding 2,300 — and no ceasefire negotiations reported to be underway.
