US Education Department Launches Probes into Racial Bias at Harvard
As stated by reports, the department’s civil rights division initiated the inquiries "amid allegations that it continues to discriminate against students on the basis of race, color, and national origin" in violation of federal law.
The investigations will examine whether Harvard still applies "illegal race-based preferences" in its admissions process, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling in 2023.
In addition, the department said it will "also investigate alleged ongoing antisemitic harassment on Harvard’s campus and the institution’s purported failure to protect Jewish students."
According to reports, the Trump administration previously exerted contentious pressure on several universities, including Harvard, concerning their management of campus demonstrations — including pro-Palestine protests — as well as policies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
