Indonesia's Train Collision Leaves Four Dead, Thirty-Eight Injured

(MENAFN) At least four people lost their lives and 38 others were wounded after two trains collided in Indonesia's West Java province late Monday, according to a broadcaster.

The crash unfolded in Bekasi when a long-distance passenger train slammed into a commuter train that had come to a halt on the tracks, state-run news agency Antara reported. Emergency responders were swiftly mobilized, with volunteers and station security personnel seen carrying wounded passengers on stretchers as evacuation operations got underway.

All 240 passengers aboard the long-distance train were successfully evacuated, according to Anne Purba, vice president of corporate communications at state-owned rail operator Kereta Api Indonesia, as reported by media.

Purba extended the corporation's formal apology over the incident, stressing that the company's immediate priority was ensuring that "all passengers and staff receive the best possible care as quickly and as effectively as possible."

Authorities escalated the emergency response by deploying elite personnel from the National Search and Rescue Agency to the collision site, with specialists arriving fully equipped to handle complex extractions from land transportation accidents.

Kereta Api Indonesia has yet to release an official statement detailing the cause of the collision, as investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
