Provided by AGPSpeaking during an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding a reported drone incident near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, Nebenzia stressed Moscow’s opposition to any strikes targeting peaceful nuclear facilities.
He stated:
"Russia's position on nuclear safety and security is principled and consistent in nature. Attacks targeting new peaceful nuclear facilities in any country of the world, all the more so those that are under IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) safeguards, are categorically unacceptable."
Nebenzia also reaffirmed Russia’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries across the region, including the UAE.
According to reports, he argued that attacks on civilian nuclear-related sites were not without precedent, pointing to what he described as earlier US and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan during June 2025.
The remarks came as Washington accused Iran of involvement in the reported drone attack near the Emirati nuclear facility, further intensifying regional tensions surrounding nuclear security and military escalation in the Middle East.
