Brad Jacobs of America’s CPA Recently Featured on Close Up Radio

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, UNITED STATES, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Somewhere right now, a pastor is matching receipts to a credit card statement when that hour could been spent ministering to a parishioner. Brad Jacobs, a certified public accountant, thinks accounting is a poor use of a calling, and his Charlottesville firm, America’s CPA, has built a service to retire the habit.

The service, called Nonprofit Financial Solutions, hands churches and small nonprofits a complete financial back office. “I will do anything I can to take financial operations off your plate,” Jacobs says. He sums up the division of labor in two sentences: “Focus on your mission. We focus on the money.”

The package starts with bookkeeping and month end reporting. Jacobs explains accurate books are “the foundation of everything,” and that leaders without reliable information make poor decisions. Many nonprofits hand their boards reports late in formats nobody can use. America’s CPA builds what Jacobs calls “Razzle Dazzle Reports,” customized sets from the same ledger, one with a level of detail for management and another with a level of detail for the board. The firm also takes on accounts payable and bill pay, payroll, gift reporting, Form 990 preparation, annual policy and procedure updates and more. For organizations that undergo audits, America’s CPA will prepare the annual report under U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.

Jacobs explains that local universities know how to accept those gifts, and he wants small nonprofits and churches to be able to do the same. And so, he has even designed his own software, GiftReporter, to track donor gifts. GiftReporter records both standard gifts (cash, check, credit card) and the tax efficient kind that many churches shy away from (such as donor advised fund gifts and qualified charitable distributions from IRAs). A search function sorts donors by how recently and how often they give, so a church can ask, for example, who gave $5,000 each year for five years and nothing this year. Jacobs calls the year end statements produced by many donor management systems “embarrassing” and says he can find 10 errors in most of them.

To move money, the firm uses the RAMP platform. America’s CPA queues vendor and contractor payments so the pastor can release them from a phone. Volunteers can even carry RAMP credit cards with varying limits depending on the user. After a purchase, a text message prompts for a photo of the receipt, which flows straight into the accounting system. “At America’s CPA, we’re done chasing receipts,” Jacobs asserts. The nonprofit earns 2% back on card spending, and reserves moved to a RAMP treasury account can earn around 4%, or roughly $4,000 a year on $100,000 that is now sitting idle.

Payroll runs on Gusto, which Jacobs has used for over six years and says integrates cleanly with the accounting system. Employees love the Gusto portal to directly enter direct deposit details and to download pay stubs and W-2s.

New church and nonprofit clients at America’s CPA begin with a one-day VIP onboarding session, held at the Charlottesville office or at the client’s site. Jacobs’ team sets up the chart of accounts, gift reporting software, payroll, bill pay, credit cards, treasury management and policies. Afterward, a team leader, along with three or four other accountants, handle the work.

Jacobs says the fee is about 6% of total revenues (including software subscriptions), which is in line with industry trends. He argues that clients likely pay that much already through bookkeeping staff and outside CPA fees. And, more cash back and higher returns on their reserves can help offset the fee.

Jacobs earned an accounting degree at the University of Northern Iowa and has worked for nonprofits since 1990, including a ten-year term as a director in the finance department at CFA Institute. He loves numbers, and describes bookkeeping as “a giant puzzle” in which every piece must fit. “You can’t grow without a properly laid financial foundation,” he says.

America’s CPA also prepares about 500 individual tax returns and has clear views on the tax code. Jacobs argues the federal government should eliminate the corporate income tax and tax all income at the individual level, a change he says would simplify filing and leave more growth inside retirement accounts.
